England Vs Ukraine to be internet only
England’s World Cup qualifier in the Ukraine on Saturday 10th October 2009 will be shown on the internet with people paying at least £4.99 for the privilege. I personally think it is a shame if we end up going down this route especially with such a pitiful broadband service in many areas of the UK.
When a game is shown on Satellite TV a large proportion of the population have no access to the match but there was always the option to pop down to a local pub in order to catch the game. This will no longer be possible for this game, well unless a landlord has the means to hook his big screen up to a PC then of course he will need a reliable and fast internet connection so if your a England fan in a rural area forget it!
Then of course the service is limited to a million subscribers so the site doesn’t crash under the strain, oh well that is a few more million people who will ot be able to watch the game.
Until we get cheap, fast and reliable broadband and the service provider can cope with a large audience I think TV companies should give internet only broadcasts a wide berth.
