Apple Macs, What's all the Fuss about?
I have recently started to use the Apple Mac (i-mac)
in my place of work which is running OS X (tiger). I have a few friends who have been using the Mac for years and sure enough they soon started to call promising that in a few weeks I would be totally converted to the ways of the mac.
Well a few weeks have passed now and indeed a few months and no, I’m afraid to say all you mac users I have not been converted sorry! Don’t get me wrong I am not about to start slagging off the Mac and add to the old Windows Vs OS X debate.
There are some nice touches about OS X, I particularly like the way you can set up the corners of your screen to carry out various actions such as shrink all the windows / show the desktop etc. Widgets are another great feature but I’m afraid I keep on going back to my XP based laptop.
Why you may ask? Well I do allot of web design and I am always working with files, copy them back and forth and so on and the Macs ‘finder’ is just, well completely backward. Give me the XP file dialogue any day, I can quickly type in the path I want, easily open more that one explorer window to drag files back and forth, OS X makes it difficult top open two Finder windows (unless of course there is something I am missing). If I am please do tell me, but really if there is another way it should me more intuitive!
Another gripe is the waste backet. Why if I want to delete a file from my USB pen drive do i have to drag it to the macs waste basket hence copying a file from an external device to the macs hard drive, how very odd!
Anyway just to say that my desktop of choice is actually KDE under linux (I use Kubuntu on my desktop) but having read a few forums installing it on my laptop seems like a long winded process, so I’m afraid for now its Windows XP Pro for me!
