This has got to be one of Chris Kamara’s classic moments on Soccer Saturday when he completely missed the sending off of Portsmouth player Anthony Vanden Borre. Even non football fans will appreciate the funny side of this one as Kammy looks totally bemused when the camera is turned on him! To rub salt into the wound Kammy seems to think that Vanden Borre was substituted rather than sent off.

Its a classic clip so enjoy!

Thierry Henry handball – The fallout http://www.robertdicks.com/home/football/thierry-henry-handball/ http://www.robertdicks.com/home/football/thierry-henry-handball/#comments Tue, 24 Nov 2009 22:39:01 +0000 Robert Dicks http://www.robertdicks.co.uk/?p=209

With the fallout of Thierry Henry’s handball still rumbling – even the political leaders of both France and Ireland have become involved I was suddenly reminded of Robbie Fowlers attempts to get a penalty decision overturned. During a game against Arsenal Fowler stumbled in the box and was awarded a penalty and sportingly told the referee ‘I tripped over my own feet’ nonetheless incredibly the referee still gave the penalty that Fowler subsequently missed (was it on purpose? I suppose we will never know!)

Why couldn’t Henry have done the same thing? Now it is perfectly possible that Henry handled the ball instinctively (yes it can happen on the football pitch!) but why not own up to the misdemeanor straight away to the Ref? OK so the outcome may have been the same as that with Robbie Fowler but at least he would have been remembered for it rather than the legacy that he will now forever be remembered for.

For those of you who missed the handball here it is again!

England Vs Ukraine to be internet only http://www.robertdicks.com/home/computing/england-match-vs-ukraine-to-be-internet-only/ http://www.robertdicks.com/home/computing/england-match-vs-ukraine-to-be-internet-only/#comments Tue, 06 Oct 2009 10:48:19 +0000 Robert Dicks http://www.robertdicks.co.uk/?p=174

England’s World Cup qualifier in the Ukraine on Saturday 10th October 2009 will be shown on the internet with people paying at least £4.99 for the privilege. I personally think it is a shame if we end up going down this route especially with such a pitiful broadband service in many areas of the UK.

When a game is shown on Satellite TV a large proportion of the population have no access to the match but there was always the option to pop down to a local pub in order to catch the game. This will no longer be possible for this game, well unless a landlord has the means to hook his big screen up to a PC then of course he will need a reliable and fast internet connection so if your a England fan in a rural area forget it!

Then of course the service is limited to a million subscribers so the site doesn’t crash under the strain, oh well that is a few more million people who will ot be able to watch the game.

Until we get cheap, fast and reliable broadband and the service provider can cope with a large audience I think TV companies should give internet only broadcasts a wide berth.

Will you pay to watch this game? Give your opinion and vote on football-banter

Ramsey Arsenal Bound http://www.robertdicks.com/home/football/ramsey-arsenal-bound/ http://www.robertdicks.com/home/football/ramsey-arsenal-bound/#comments Wed, 11 Jun 2008 09:39:57 +0000 Robert Dicks http://blogs.graftonterrace.net/?p=50

After weeks of transfer speculation and Aaron Ramsey talking to the Mancs, Everton and Arsenal it appears he has signed for the latter. Its seems a meeting with Arsene Wenger made up the teenagers mind to sign for the Gunners.

Is this a good move for the player and is it good for Cardiff City? Well being a city fan it would have been nice if the club could hold on to such players but with debt looming over the club perhaps this was always going to happen. Which brings me on to the price – £5 Million (so we are led to believe) for such a talented player seems like peanuts to what Spurs payed for Gareth Bale. Surly with 3 big clubs chasing after him market forces would dictate that the price goes up! Still its a done and dusted deal now which brings me on to my next point.

How much of this money will Dave Jones see for the squad? It is clear that we need a new striker and I have always though that McPhail and Rae struggle at times together in the centre. In fact I was rather hoping that Ramsey would solve this problem!

Lets hope that Ramsey does well at the Gunners although how far down the pecking order he will be at the moment is anyones guess. Wenger tends to play the youngsters in the league cup so lets hope he shines in that. Still I think Man Utd’s deal to loan him back to City for the season would have been best for the player development wise, oh well what is done is done!

Cardiff City FA Cup Final Ticket Shambles http://www.robertdicks.com/home/football/cardiff-city-fa-cup-final-ticket-shambles/ http://www.robertdicks.com/home/football/cardiff-city-fa-cup-final-ticket-shambles/#comments Thu, 17 Apr 2008 08:06:17 +0000 Robert Dicks http://blogs.graftonterrace.net/?p=49

What a complete and utter farce the latest city scheme for tickets. The club have initially decided that they will be accepting postal applications only for a while before people are allowed to go down to Ninian Park in person to by tickets (on a stand by stand basis). So later today along with probably at least 10,000 other people my full name, address, date of birth and full credit card details will be in the post hopefully on its way to the city ticket office.

If i was less than honest person working somewhere I would be rubbing my hands at this opportunity, if someone wants to dip there hands into a few envelopes out of 10,000 odd then they have access to £1,000 of pounds plus my full identity.

Why can we not have a secure online ordering service which would also automatically distinguish between ambassadors, season ticket holders etc. Pop my fan number in, address and hey presto the system knows I am an ambassador, job done. ok, ok such a system would discriminate against people with no internet access but hey this is the modern world!

As it stands if my application does get though and is not intercepted then the ticket office staff have an administrative nightmare.

A few applications will have multiple applicants as well possibly with varying membership types, eg ambassadors, season ticket holders for next season etc. The staff have to sift through these as well.

Here is hoping that:

  1. My application is not intercepted
  2. The office staff can work out what the hell is going on
  3. Its not yet another Cardiff City Cock Up

Bluebirds FA Cup Final Ticket Allocation Announced http://www.robertdicks.com/home/football/bluebirds-fa-cup-final-ticket-allocation-announced/ http://www.robertdicks.com/home/football/bluebirds-fa-cup-final-ticket-allocation-announced/#comments Tue, 15 Apr 2008 08:19:53 +0000 Robert Dicks http://blogs.graftonterrace.net/?p=48

Cardiff City have announced there ticketing arrangements for the FA cup final as follows

07/08 Ambassadors who have renewed for next season – 2 tickets.

·07/08 Ambassadors who have not renewed for next season – 1 ticket.

·07/08 Season Ticket Holders – 1 ticket.

·New 08/09 Ambassadors – 1 ticket.

This is fair enough in my opinion but one worryingly addition is the postal applications. The club, in order to cut the queues that sprang up at Ninian Park for the Semi Final tickets has decided that fans will not be able to que until Monday 28th April when this seasons ambassadors will be able to buy tickets – here is a full list of dates.

  • Mon 28thApril -Wed 30th April – 07/08 Ambassadors in the Main Grandstand
  • Thur 1st May -Sat 3rd May – 07/08 Ambassadors in Bob Bank Seating & Family Stand
  • Mon 5th May -Wed 7th May – 07/08 Ambassadors in Bob Bank Terrace/Grange End Terrace
  • Thur 8thMay – Sat 10th May – 07/08 Season Ticket Holders (Non-Ambassadors) & New 08/09 Ambassadors
  • Monday 13th May – Away Travel Members on a first come first served basis subject to availabilityThe Ticket Office will be open from 9.00am to 5.00pm on the above dates.

What worries me is the ability of the club to totally make a complete hash of postal applications losing applications and whatnot. Also what happens if the particular price range you have gone for has sold out, the price banding is a bit steep and you could be hit with a hefty bill if they give you the next range up. Still its the FA cup final so most of us will pay it so who cares, especially the bandwagon boys who seem to be all around us, yes the 14,000 odd attendance on Saturday against Blackpool really shows what a bunch of loyal supporters we have.

Oh well lets look forward to the final and lets just hope the postal applications goes smoothly, oh do the Royal Mail with there track record know 20 odd thousand pieces of mail to Ninian Park are on the way? I hope they tell the poor old postie!!

Watch this space,!

Cardiff City – West Brom Great Game And No April Fool! http://www.robertdicks.com/home/cardiff-city-west-brom-great-game-and-no-april-fool/ http://www.robertdicks.com/home/cardiff-city-west-brom-great-game-and-no-april-fool/#comments Wed, 02 Apr 2008 10:50:05 +0000 Robert Dicks http://blogs.graftonterrace.net/?p=46

I just cannot believe what I witnessed down at Ninian Park last night – one of the best games i have seen all season despite being a nil nil. From some of the drivel I have seen down at the home of Welsh football this year (Only Joking Leighton James) including the likes of Bristol City, Hull City and a few of the play off contenders Wolves and Plymouth spring to mind us and West Brom should be walking this division.

Some of the football from both teams was top draw despite the fact city were playing with 10 men (yes i don’t count Thompson anymore as our 11th man). I just don’t understand why at times we can look absolutely brilliant and then at other times look so completely dire. Perhaps its shite teams coming down here and dragging us down to their level or perhaps is because teams like West Brom who like to play with the ball on the floor suits our style, i just cannot work it out!

What a waste of space Thompson is, he hoofed a glorious chance to put us one up well over bar, a chance that any of us could have converted blindfolded and with a broken leg (Something tells me Mr Fowler would have converted the chance!) and the rest of the time he trotted around without a care in the world, no wonder Parry got injured doing all the work for that waste of space.

Lets hope Parry is fit for our trip to Wembley as we need someone with pace up front Hasselbaink will be back which is a bonus for the ineffective Thompson but he doesn’t give us an outlet at his age!

If we play like we did last night Barnsley should be dead and buried by half time…..

Leighton James Sacked http://www.robertdicks.com/home/leighton-james-sacked/ http://www.robertdicks.com/home/leighton-james-sacked/#comments Fri, 28 Mar 2008 11:08:02 +0000 Robert Dicks http://blogs.graftonterrace.net/?p=47

Its about time that clown Leighton James was sacked from the Beeb. It has been clear for years that he does not have good word to say about Cardiff City even though being a BBC pundit he should be totally impartial. You certainly do not see the likes of Alan Hansen shouting down the England team when they play and making sly comments, no he is totally professional.

I see no problem in Swansea being promoted as far as I am concerned it is in the best interests of Welsh football especially as many youngsters may now well have a chance of playing at a higher level and this can only be good for John Toshack and his Welsh team.

Perhaps Mr James should turn his attention to the dire straights that Wrexham find themselves in and the damage that will cause if or should I say when they drop out of the football league. The more Welsh youngsters we have playing at a higher level can only be good for our football and Cardiff City winning the FA cup and the possibility of Aron Ramsey, Darcy Blake and Joe Ledley playing in Europe is something that Mr James should be looking at instead of letting his childish qualities come to the fore.

I just hope that when Swansea do come up next year both sets of Fans can behave themselves and not bring disgrace on the two clubs

Judge rules in Cardiff City favour http://www.robertdicks.com/home/judge-rules-in-cardiff-city-favour/ http://www.robertdicks.com/home/judge-rules-in-cardiff-city-favour/#comments Thu, 20 Mar 2008 11:35:26 +0000 Robert Dicks http://blogs.graftonterrace.net/?p=40

Just after 2pm on Wednesday 19th February it emerged that Langston (Sam Hamman) had lost its case for a summary judgment. The judge ruled that Cardiff City had every chance of winning if the case goes to full court so a summary judgment in this instance was not appropiate.

Call me skeptical but as Hamman once said no Sam at Cardiff City, no Cardiff City then we can only presume its Mr Hamman trying to get back into the club that he ‘loves’. Yes ‘loves’ in the loosest sense of word. It will be interesting to see if an out of court settlement can be made especially as Hamman sees so hell bent on getting the club back, especially as we potentially have a huge asset in the new stadium, a friend of mine (a Wimbledon Fan) commented that Hamman wants back in to sell the stadium to a private company to bad the cash, I laughed but at but I wonder if he is correct….

Cardiff City Vs Sam Hamman (Langston) http://www.robertdicks.com/home/cardiff-city-vs-sam-hamman-langston/ http://www.robertdicks.com/home/cardiff-city-vs-sam-hamman-langston/#comments Fri, 14 Mar 2008 10:02:10 +0000 Robert Dicks http://blogs.graftonterrace.net/?p=39

As a Cardiff City fan I am very very concerned about the evidence that we have presented in the Langston case (sorry the Hammam case). I am particauly concerned about the following paragraph that i read on the icWales website

Mr Wolfson said that Langston must have known when they signed their October 2006 loan renegotiation that the May 2007 date was never going to happen as there were a number of clauses that could not be satisfied by that date and it was therefore a “mutual error”.

I think we can only hope that the judge realises that Hammam is hiding something and decides on a full trial so all his dealings come out, by the look of it there is no chance of us winning the summary judgment outright. Then again if Hammam wins will he really call in the debt or just come back into city knowing the stadium and the land would be technically under his ownership? He is doing the exact same thing to us as he done to Wimbledon, selling them down the River for a tidy sum of money.

Of course the hope would be that if we go into admin and we can secure enough points to avoid the drop (with the ten deducted) then potential investors will be milling around – A championship club with a massive retail complex and new stadium being built is surely a nice sweetener to anyone, then again Hammam being Hammam would refuse any such investments.

Lets hope when the judge gives us the verdict Hamman hasn’t got his wishes. You had your time Hamman and it was great taking us from the 2nd Division to the Championship but it really is time to move on.
